…commissions administrative building of FCE(T) as college matriculates pioneer students
Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu has tasked young Nigerians to be technically grounded, as the world is in dire need of technical manpower to drive modern technological know-how.
The Deputy Governor threw the challenge at the maiden matriculation ceremony for pioneer students of the Federal College of Education (Technical) Ekiadolor, Benin, Edo State.
Shaibu who represented Governor Godwin Obaseki at the epoch-making event, said Nigeria needed technical manpower to drive the increasing technologies in the world.
He noted: “It’s a pleasure and privilege to have a Federal College of Education (Technical) in Edo State. The world today needs people who are technically experienced”.
“As a Government, one of the things we did when we came on board was to redefine our educational system. Not only did we redefine the system, we gave attention to quality manpower to ensure they bring out the best in the students”.
“According to him: “Right now, we’re running a system that is highly dependable and sustainable; a system that I like to describe as a reference system to other states and nations. A system that gives value to education and the children. You must always pursue the best”, he charged the matriculating students.
Earlier, the Provost of the College, Dr. Emmanuel Asagha, who declared the matriculation ceremony opened, paid glowing tributes to the Edo State Government, led by Mr. Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki and ably supported by his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, for initiating the takeover of the former state-owned College of Education by the Federal Government and its conversion to a technical institution.
The College Registrar, Mr. Henry Itedjere, administered the oath of allegiance to the students.
A total of 324 pioneer students of the college took their matriculation oath at the ceremony, which attracted many dignitaries from all walks of life, including the institution’s Governing Council, led by its Chairman, Prof. Samuel Aduwa-Ogiegbaen, former Edo State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Joan Osa-Oviawe, palace chiefs, parents and representatives of the host communities.
The Deputy Governor, who had earlier commissioned the College Administrative Building, received a ‘Distinguished Honour of Award for Meritorious Service’ on behalf of the State Governor, for his immense contributions to education in Edo State – bestowed on him by the Governing Council of the College.
