Mary Amponsah shone like a star in the dark in a six-goal thriller in the second match of day one of the ongoing WAFU -B women’s football tournament – the qualifiers for the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium as Ampem Darkoa of Ghana beat Amis Du Monde of Togo 4-2.
The ferocious young lady opened the scoring for her side with just a few seconds into the game to destabilize any plans the Togolese had in plans for them.
The Togolese took only a few minutes to get back in the game as they levelled up in the 19th minute after Chiwendu Ufomba converted from close range.
Still enjoying their celebration of levelling, the Ghanaians took the lead courtesy of the first goal scorer with another fine strike against the run of play in the 22nd minute.
The two sides fought hard to get another goal each – for security and leveller, but all efforts proved abortive to end the game in 2-1 in favour of the Ghanaian Ladies.
The second half resumed with Amis De Monde pushing for an equalizer, but a counterattack by the fast Ghanaians was hurt in the heart of the Togolese as Mary Amponsah grabbed her hat-trick just ten minutes into the second half.
As both coaches made substitutions to beef up their teams, it was Ampem Darkoa that got the positive turnout as the hottest lady on the night grabbed her haul to put the game beyond the opponents in the 65th minute.
The game climaxes down with no goal forthcoming and Ampem Darkoa felt relaxed until Senyebia Tessa scored a screamer from the edge of the box in the 90th minute to reduce the deficit.
The four minutes of added time had no impact as both sides settled for what they had gotten before the added time and the game ended in favour of the Ghanaians.
Meanwhile, the four-goal heroine, Mary Amponsah was awarded the Player of the Match award to the delight of her teammates and applause from the teeming Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium crowd who enjoyed every bit of the game.
Hostilities resume Tuesday, August 22nd when USFA of Burkina Faso will fancy their chances of making it to the semi-final when they play host to Sam Nelly of Benin Republic at 3 pm and Amis Du Monde taking on Athletico FC at 6 pm.
