Christopher Musa Danjuma is set to return to his role as the Head Coach of the U20 Women National Team, Falconets, following the approval of the recommendation made by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical Committee, Platinumnewsng.com understands.
This was made known to the general public via a post on X on the official handle of the football federation.
The process to reinstate Danjuma began with a one-week public notice soliciting applications from qualified individuals. After short-listing candidates, interviews were conducted by a panel from the Technical Committee.
Danjuma, who has also temporarily led the Senior Women National Team, Super Falcons, on several occasions, previously guided the Falconets to the quarter-finals of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica last year.
Assisting Danjuma in his coaching role will be former U20 and U17 girls’ assistant coach Mansur Abdullahi, along with former Super Falcons’ midfielder Effioanwan Ekpo.
Ekpo boasts an impressive ten-year career representing Nigeria between 2000 and 2010, participating in various international tournaments including FIFA World Cup finals, Women Olympic Football Tournaments, and winning the Women Africa Cup of Nations three times.
Yahaya Audu, who has been the goalkeeper trainer for the team, will also return to his position.
The Falconets are gearing up for the 2024 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifying campaign, starting with a second-round, first-leg match against Mauritius in Saint Pierre on Sunday, 8th October. The return leg is scheduled for the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja, on Saturday, 14th October 2023.
