One Year in Office, Ibrahim Gusau Outlines Achievements and Plans

The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, marked one year in office by outlining ambitious plans to elevate the performance of the country’s national teams in the coming year, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.

Gusau pledged the NFF’s commitment to ensuring improved performance across all national teams compared to the previous year. He emphasized this while reviewing the NFF’s activities during his first year in office and setting expectations for the year ahead.

In his review, Gusau highlighted some key achievements from the past year, including the historic podium finish by the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup team, the quarter-final performance of the Flying Eagles at the FIFA U20 World Cup, the Super Eagles’ qualification for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, and not too impressive performance of the Super Falcons at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

He credited the NFF’s collaborative efforts for removing toxicity from the system and creating a more conducive environment for football in Nigeria.

Looking ahead, Gusau expressed his hopes for the Super Falcons to regain their African title and secure a spot in the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament. He also mentioned plans to improve accommodation and playing pitches for national teams through the FIFA Forward 3.0 program. He also expects strong showings from the U17 and U20 Women’s National Teams in their respective World Cups next year.

Gusau further stated that the NFF would not let any FIFA window for friendly matches go unused. He pointed out that they have already scheduled two matches for the Super Eagles this month, against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique. The Mozambique match, in particular, provides an opportunity for the team to prepare for upcoming World Cup qualifiers against opponents from southern Africa, including Lesotho, Zimbabwe, and South Africa.

Gusau has now spent one year in office after he elected as the NFF President at NFF’s 78th Elective Congress in Benin, the Edo State capital last year’s September.
