Few minutes to the start of the electoral proceedings, Benjamin Owerei announced his decision to step down from the race for Fred Newton. However, the Electoral Committee chaired by Saturday Okao accepted the decision of Owerei, he explained that his name will remain on the ballot as it has already been printed..
With Benjamin stepping down, four names were left on the ballot for the Chairmanship position. The contenders include Fred Newton, Engr. Emmanuel Edekin Imiere, Johnbull Edosomwan and Egbon Victor.
24 delegates represented by the 18 Local Councils FA and six statutory delegates representing various football bodies such as the Referee Association (Edo Referee Council), Nigeria Coaches Association (Edo State Chapter), Premier League representative (Bendel Insurance FC), Nigeria Women Football League (Edo Queens FC), Nigeria Women Amateur League (Fortress Ladies FC) and Nation-wide League NLO (Rolly FC).
Fred Newton polled 15 votes to defeat his closest rival, Emmanuel Imiere who polled seven votes.
