Bayer Leverkusen forward, Victor Boniface could miss out of Super Eagles’ first game in Group A against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday, January 14 due to injury ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations campaign in Ivory Coast, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.
According to camp sources, the 23-year-old had earlier sustained a muscle injury in training that left him out of the friendlies against Al Gharib and Guinea but the extent is yet to be known.
However, José Peseiro may have to look elsewhere in partnering the Napoli talisman, Victor Osimhen with Real Sociedad’s Umar Sadiq as the only fit strikers in the 25-man squad at the moment. While, the other possible option in the final third, Kelechi Iheanacho is yet to fully recover from a muscular injury with few days to the start of actions in Cote d’Ivoire.
Meanwhile, Boniface made his Super Eagles’ debut under the Portuguese gaffer against Sao Tome and Principe in September and has featured five times for the three-time African champions.
