AFCON 2023 Draw: Super Eagles seeds in Pot 2, may face Senegal, Morocco, Algeria

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have been placed in Pot 2 of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations draw by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and may face a difficult side in the group stage of next year’s African championship in Ivory Coast.

CAF released AFCON seedings on its official X handle on Thursday, with Jose Peseiro’s side likely to face the defending champions Senegal, hosts Cote d’Ivoire, Morocco, Algeria and Egypt in the group stage of the tournament.

The three-time African champions are joined by perennial rivals, Ghana and Cameroon, Mali, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Burkina Faso making up the other teams in Pot 2.

While, Pot 3 comprises South Africa, Cape Verde, Guinea, Zambia, Equatorial Guinea and Mauritania, and Pot 4 has Guinea Bissau, Namibia, Mozambique, Angola, Gambia and Tanzania.

The teams will be drawn into groups in Cote d’Ivoire on Thursday, October 12 with the competition expected to last from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
