AFCON 2023: Injured Iheanacho To Join Super Eagles In Abu Dhabi

With the assurance of the President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gasau said on Thursday night that Kelechi Iheanacho is set to link up with his teammates at the Super Eagles training camp in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.

The Leicester City forward is who currently recovering from a muscular problem will now fly out of the country to meet up with his countrymen at their Abu Dhabi training base on Tuesday, January 9 in preparation for Africa’s biennial tournament.

While, his compatriot and club teammate, Wilfred Ndidi has already been ruled out of the 2023 AFCON finals due to injury and was replaced by José Peseiro with the Royal Antwerp midfielder and Super Eagles’ newbie, Alhassan Yusuf.

Gusau disclosed that the 27-year-old will be with his colleagues before their departure to Abidjan on Wednesday, January 10 where they will begin their campaign in Group A against Equatorial Guinea at the Alssanne Quattara Stadium, Ebimpe, Abidjan on Sunday, January 14.

“I have spoken to Iheanacho, he’s recovering fast and has even started running. He will most likely join us in Lagos, where the team will be hosted to a dinner on January 9,” Gusau told Totori News.
