Benjamin Tamimu’s Ihefu Sports Club Pips Kinondoni To Go 7th

Fortune continues to smile on Ihefu Sports Club of Tanzania as the fight to sustain their league status received another boost with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Kinondoni MC in the match day 20 of the Tanzanian Ligi Guu Bara Tuesday afternoon.

The home team got their goal courtesy of former Simba central back, Joash Onyango in the 20th minute. The Kenyan connected with fellow Kenyan — Duke Abuya’s free-kick to head home what would be the winner for his side.

The away team, not deterred by the goal, knocked on the leading team’s goal with a couple of offensive plays, but couldn’t hey the goal. Late into the first half, the away team KMC thought they had gotten an equalizer when Najimu Nagilu’s beautiful effort was denied by the crossbar.

Ihefu resumed the second half with a quick search to extend their lead — the team created enough chances to double their lead, but the forward line couldn’t out any of the laboured efforts into the back of the net.

Both coaches sent in players to change the complexion of the game but all plans proved abortive as the game ended as it was in the first half.

With the win, Ihefu has now climbed from 11th to 7th on the log with 23 points, 3 points from 4th placed Coastal Union. The team will next face table toppers, Young Africans next Monday.
