Betsy Obaseki Women Tournament: Yemisi Samuel’s ‘Made In Heaven’ Goal Enough Hands Edo Queens Quarter Finals Place

Samuel Yemisi produced a last-gasp moment of brilliance to snatch a 1-0 win for Edo Queens over Royal Queens at the Western Boys High School mini-stadia on a rainy Friday afternoon in Benin.

Royal Queens of Delta looked on course for a deserved point going into the 81st minute – but Samuel Yemisi came up with a stunning touch and finish on the move from Jumoke Alani’s beautiful long pass to win it for the Obaseki Girls.

The girls from Delta were well organised to keep out an early onslaught from Edo Queens and threatened from counter attacks to break the Obaseki Girls midfield, but resilient defending kept Edo Queens in the game.

Royal Queens with a tough and rigid defence tried to hold Edo Queens to a draw, forcing Edo Queens’ new gaffer, Moses Adukwu to make multiple changes during the second 45′ as he threw in new signings, Oluwatosin Ogundeko, Jumoke Alani, Suliat Abideen and others to change the game.

The Alani sub in the 79th minute paid off as the pacy fullback was too fast and energetic for the Royal Queens defence to hold. After the 81st-minute goal, several attempts from Alani however failed to be productive in the last minute of the game.

With today’s victory, Edo Queens have secured a place in the knockout stages as they top their group with six(6) points and a +10 goal difference.
