Edo Queens emerged victorious, defeating Remo Stars Ladies 2-1 and claiming the top spot in Group A in the Nigeria Women Football League Premiership pre-season tournament.
Remo Stars Ladies, a newly-formed team, made their presence felt by initially taking the lead with a beautiful play that saw Arubo Oluwaseyi opening the scoring just 15 minutes into the game. Edo Queens, however, displayed resilience, launching a relentless attacks with multiple opportunities to level the score, all of which they narrowly missed.
Their determination finally bore fruit in the 33rd minute, as Suliat Abideen stepped up and confidently converted from the spot, capitalizing on a rash challenge on an Edo Queens player.
The second half witnessed both teams striving for the elusive equalizer, with their efforts falling short. However, the drama unfolded in the 90+6th minute when Edo Queens secured the victory once again, courtesy of Suliat Abideen, who, for the second time, expertly converted from the penalty spot.
Esther Moses Chioma, named the Player of the Match, expressed her joy at the recognition, saying, “I wanted to score but I could not find my scoring boots. First time scoring in this tournament and I am excited. This is also the first time winning the Player of the Match. We are aiming for the final and will go on to win it.”
