…says body will support in developing selected boxers
President of the Boxing Promoters Association of Nigeria (BPAN), Omonlei Yakubu Imadu, has expressed delight in the number of boxing talents on display at the 2024 National Youth Games in Asaba. Imadu, who closely monitored the boxing events at the Games, praised the various state sports commissions for breeding juvenile boxers.
It will be recalled that BPAN, under Imadu’s leadership as president, and Wasiu Alabi Waheed of De Lads Boxing Promotions as vice president, pledged the sum of 500,000 naira in the form of a one-year scholarship to boxers at the 8th National Youth Games. The announcement made on Tuesday stated that the donation will be awarded to the overall best male and female boxers participating in the games as a way to foster the growth of young talents.
The BPAN boss, in his address to newsmen, commended the Delta State government for their level of organization in hosting the games, as well as the sports ministry for throwing its weight behind this year’s event.
“I think the host state has done well with the organization in collaboration with the sports ministry; most importantly, the quality of talent at the boxing events truly excites me”.
“Our technical and talents department have penned down some names from the various states, and we hope to pragmatically support their growth and development”, Imadu stated
Host Delta emerged the overall winner of the 8th National Youth Games with a total of 41 gold, 27 silver and 30 bronze medals.
Team Lagos came second with 25 gold, 19 silver and 18 bronze medals.
Team Edo scooped 53 medals to emerge third on the medal table with a total of 17 gold, 12 silver and 21 bronze medals.
