Bendel Insurance will resume the second stanza of the Nigeria Premier Football League without stalwart centre-back Benjamin Tanimu, who has been a cornerstone of Bendel Insurance’s defence for six memorable seasons, as the defender has now joined Tanzanian Premier League side, Ihefu Sports Club on a long-term deal, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.
In a tweet by Benjamin’s spokesperson, Ayoola Adeleke on X, the player’s departure was revealed by his new team on the club’s Instagram handle.
Known for his dedication, resilience, and leadership on the field, Benjamin’s exit is a bittersweet moment for both the player and the club he has called home for the better part of a decade. In 59 NPFL appearances for the club, Tanimu, netted twice for the Benin Arsenal, both goals scored this season.
During his illustrious tenure with the Benin Arsenal, Benjamin has been pivotal in the club’s successes, including clinching the Nigeria National League and winning the Federation Cup.
Arriving at the club as a young talent, Benjamin quickly established himself as a key figure in the team’s backline. His commitment to the club’s cause, combined with his on-field performances, endeared him to fans making him a beloved figure at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
Bendel Insurance will count on defenders such as Joel Djondang, Hussaini Abdulahi and others as a replacement for Tanimu ‘SOLID’ Benjamin. The Benin Arsenal will play against Sporting Lagos away from home in matchday 20 of the NPFL at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Sunday, February 18.
