Police in Kenya have announced that two men were apprehended in connection with the killing of Ugandan Olympic runner, Benjamin Kiplagat who was found to have been fatally stabbed in a car on New Year’s Eve, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.
According to www.espn.com, Moiben Sub-county Police Commander, Stephen Okal said that a knife suspected to have been used in the killing of Kiplagat was retrieved from one of the suspects. While the motive behind the gruesome murder of the 34-year-old runner, according to the Police Commander appears to be robbery, with evidence of thefts (money and a cellphone) from the deceased.
The Police said Kiplagat’s throat was slit and his corpse was found in his brother’s car on Sunday morning in the outskirts of Eldoret, a high-altitude town in Western Kenya renowned for the training base for elite athletes.
Kiplagat competed in three Olympic games and six world championships in the 3,000-metre steeplechase. He won a bronze medal at the 2012 African Championships. Sadly, he is now the fourth athlete to be killed in the same area in recent years.
