For the first time in the country’s history, the Nigeria U-18 women’s handball team have qualified for the 2024 Women’s Youth World Handball Championship after a resounding success over Morocco to claim one of the four African slots.
The Nigerian team defeated the Moroccans 28-14 in the quarter-finals of the 2023 African U-18 Women’s Handball Nations Championship on Wednesday, which means that the win against Morocco has secured Nigeria a place with the three other countries that will represent Africa at the world competition.
Meanwhile, Nigeria has also advanced to the semi-finals of the ongoing African Handball youth tourney, billed to face Egypt at 6:30 pm Nigerian time on Friday and will also feature at this year’s edition of the IHF Women Trophy Intercontinental Phase.
