The maiden edition of the Platinum Cup football tournament is set to take Benin City by a storm as the organizers have announced the kick-off date for the competition which has been tagged as the rebirth of the grassroots football competition.
The organizers, through the Media Officer of the competition, Bolaji Jokanola on Thursday made the date known in a press release.
With the stakes so high, the Platinum Cup billed to hold from March 21-27 2023, promises to give an adrenaline-pumped, heart-pumping and palms-sweating afternoons where only the strong will emerge victorious.
The 8-team tournament will serve as a preseason tournament for the Nigeria Nationwide League (NLO 1&2) clubs and selected grassroots clubs from within and outside the state.
Platinum Cup will provide an opportunity for budding talents to showcase their football skills and gauge their raw talent and local and international agents are expected to be on the ground to scout young players.
Platinum Cup a tournament to be hosted by Platinum News, will take place in Benin at the Main Bowl of the University of Benin over one week as teams will slug it out for glory.
Speaking on the reason for the tournament, the head, organizing committee, Kennedy Ugbodaga Irabor said the purpose of this is to stimulate and prepare teams participating in the NLO ahead of their rigorous schedules in the new season as well as allow grassroots clubs to measure their wit against more advanced teams.
