The Nigeria Football Federation, led by President Ibrahim Gusau, has officially appointed Finidi George as the head coach of the Super Eagles, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.
The former Super Eagles player was unveiled at an event in Abuja attended by the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, and leaders of the NFF at the Media Centre of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Monday morning
The former Ajax winger steps up to the role permanently following the departure of Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro whom he was an assistant to.
As an assistant to Peseiro during the last African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast where Nigeria finished as runners-up. He was appointed after temporarily leading the team in friendly matches against Ghana and Mali.
He was formally introduced as the head coach at the NFF headquarters in Abuja on Monday. Finidi’s first major challenge in his new role will be guiding the team through the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, starting with a match against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana.
