NPFL24: Akwa United Shifts Home Matches to Eket Stadium

Nigeria Premier Football League side, Akwa United will now play home games at the 18,000-seater Eket Stadium, after the league organisers, the Nigeria Premier Football League gave the promise keepers green light to play their remaining home games in Eket for the 2023-24 season, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.

In a letter dated October 16, 2023, signed by the league’s Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi, this move has been approved until the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, the Nest of Champions, becomes less occupied with international matches.

FIFA and CAF recently recognized the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium as the sole suitable venue in Nigeria for hosting international matches involving clubs and national teams.

The league organizers have called on the Akwa Ibom State Football Normalization Committee to ensure all logistics are in place for smooth and trouble-free matches in Eket.

Akwa United’s Promise Keepers, currently with one point from three games, are also planning more training sessions at Eket Stadium to help players acclimatize to the artificial surface.

With this nod, Akwa United will face Shooting Stars on October 22, 2023, for their matchday 4 fixture at Eket Stadium.
