NYG 2025: Team Edo Storms Asaba, Targets Better Podium Finish

The finalised entries include 4,961 athletes, 635 coaches, 386 team officials, and 400 state delegates. These figures highlight the growing scale and importance of the Games, which continue to serve as a platform for nurturing young sporting talent and fostering unity across Nigeria.

The Edo State contingent for the 2025 National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, will on Wednesday, August 27, depart the state’s capital for Asaba, to compete in the 9th National Youth Games.

Team Edo will look to better its last edition’s third-place performance with 53 medals —21 gold, 15 silver and 17 bronze medals.

The Commission Chairman, who expressed satisfaction with the level of preparation, charged the athletes and coaches to adopt a winning mentality as they set out to reclaim glory from the reigning champions, Delta State. He commended the state’s governor, Monday Okpebholo, for his unwavering support for sports development in the state.

The Team Edo contingent numbering 280 athletes alongside coaches and the state’s delegates.

6,382 participants from across the country have been confirmed to attend the event in Asaba from August 29 to September 6, 2025.

No fewer than 37 sporting events will be contested at this year’s Games, ensuring a wide display of skill, competition, and teamwork across multiple disciplines. The defending champions, Team Delta, will aim to retain their crown but will face strong competition from rival contingents determined to claim this year’s honours.
