…Restates his royal father/son relationship with the Edo Deputy Governor
The Benin Monarch, Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II has affirmed his royal relationship and love for Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu describes it as that of a father and son. The monarch said he was affirming it as stated in the birthday/coronation anniversary congratulatory message sent to him by the Deputy Governor.
This is coming on the heels of wild speculation that the Deputy Governor’s relationship with the Benin monarch had gone sour.
The Deputy Governor was in the company of his boss, Governor Godwin Obaseki who led the PDP presidential flag bearer, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the running mate, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa and other top party officials to the palace, before going to Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium for the campaign rally,
According to the revered monarch who showered encomiums on Shaibu, “my able Deputy Governor and son, I received your letter, congratulating me on my birthday and coronation anniversary; thank you so much”.
“I particularly took note of the last paragraph, and I want to let you know that you remain my son,” the monarch added.
While receiving the PDP Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar at his palace, he prayed for a hitch-free campaign and successful general elections in 2023.
At the Oba’s Palace was: Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State; Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal; Akwa-Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel; Delta State Governor and PDP Vice Presidential Candidate, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa; PDP National Chairman, Dr. Iyorcha Ayu; amongst other personalities.
Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, including other PDP stalwarts from across Nigeria were in Benin, the Edo State capital, to formally flag off the Presidential Campaign in the State.

The highlight of Atiku’s visit was the official commissioning of the ultra-modern Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, reconstructed by Governor Godwin Obaseki – led administration.
Atiku had earlier commissioned his Presidential Campaign Office, along the Sapele Road axis in Benin City.
