In a tale of heartwarming determination and fulfilment, Christy Ucheibe has realized her childhood dream of representing the Super Falcons at the World Cup, honouring a promise made to her late mother.
Having witnessed the Germany 2011 Women’s World Cup as a young girl, the Benfica star pledged to her mother that one day, she would grace the international stage, proudly donning the green and white of Nigeria. Although her mother is no longer with her to see the realization of this dream, the footballer’s journey to success has been imbued with love and devotion to her mother’s memory.
With steadfast commitment and relentless training, the 22-year-old pursued her passion, and her hard work eventually earned her a coveted spot on the Super Falcons’ roster for the prestigious tournament as she featured for the Super Falcons in Nigeria’s goalless draw against Canada.
Reflecting on her incredible journey, Ucheibe expressed her joy and gratitude for being able to fulfil her pledge. She firmly believes that her mother’s presence will be felt during every game, guiding and inspiring her to perform her best and make her nation proud.
