…charges Nigerian Comrades to promote ideals of egalitarian society

Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu has charged the League of Comrades in Edo State and Nigeria at large, to remain steadfast to their convictions and to be the catalyst of positive change in the country.

The Deputy Governor made the remarks at the maiden ‘Comrade Dinner and Awards Night’, which was held on Sunday at the prestigious Wesley Hotel, Benin City.

Shaibu enjoined the Comrades to live up to the expectations of their status and effect life-impacting changes in the country.

According to the State number two citizen, “as agents of change and conscience of the masses, you must be seen without any iota of doubt, to be apostles and promoters of the noble ideals of an egalitarian society”.

Reflecting on his experience as a comrade, he counselled his Comrades to “always stand firm and not to waiver amid storms”.

The ‘Selfless Service to Humanity Award’ Recipient narrated how he was arrested and tortured during the ‘Abacha Must Go’ movement, but was vindicated in the end.

He admonished all Comrades to stand for what they believe in, urging them to come out in the next round of elections and vote for persons they believe in, without fear or favour.

The Dinner and Award Night, organized under the auspices of the University of Benin Students Union Government, attracted Comrades from all walks of life, including some members-elect of the Edo State House of Assembly.

The highlight of the event was the conferment of the ‘Selfless Service to Humanity Award’ on the Deputy Governor, amidst cheers and celebrations.
