…hosts delegation of Fugar Progressive Union

Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, Tuesday played host to a delegation of Fugar Progressive Union (FPU) at the Government House, Benin City, assuring of the government’s commitment towards a peaceful resolution of the brewing communal crisis in Etsako Central Local Government Area of the State.

The Deputy Governor, in his response to the issues raised by the delegation, led by its Chairman, Board of Trustees, and former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Chief Mike Ogiadomhe, assured of the timely intervention of the State Government in resolving the traditional institution crisis, by delineating the roles of Village Heads and Elders from Kingmakers.

Shaibu promised that the government was going to look into their demands, especially that of citing technical and vocational institutions in the area and the construction of Township Roads in Fugar, headquarters of the local government, and other concerning issues raised by the FPU delegation.

According to him, “conflict between Traditional Rulers, Kingmakers, and Elders is inevitable. We will look at the creation of clans as raised if that will help solve the crises. However, one major issue we must look at is to explicitly differentiate the roles of Elders and the Traditional Rulers.”

“We will also look at the possibility of citing the campus of any of our State institutions, if not, we will construct technical and vocational institutions in the locality”, Shaibu added.

Earlier, in his speech, the Chairman, Board of Trustees, and former Edo State Deputy Governor, Chief Mike Ogiadomhe, applauded the State government, under the leadership of Mr. Godwin Obaseki, for the transformation of Edo State.

He appealed to the State Government for the creation of the Fugar Clan from the present Avianwu Clan, the construction or relocation of one of the State’s higher institutions, and the resolution of the conflict between Elders and Traditional Rulers.

Ogiadomhe also extended a formal invitation to the Deputy Governor to attend activities marking Fugar Cultural Day.
