…leads road show to mark the celebration

Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, Thursday led a team of the World Health Organization, WHO, on a road show to celebrate 75 years of partnership with the Government.

Speaking on behalf of the State Governor, Mr Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki, Shaibu congratulated the global health body for its sterling performance over the years.

According to him: “It’s fulfilling as we all celebrate WHO today for their 75 years of service to humanity and a prosperous healthy nation”.

“Though there has been a lot of turbulence, WHO has been able to sustain the aims of its establishment. As the ‘police’ of health in the world, they have indeed done very well even amid pandemics”.

“For us as a state, we are happy with the partnership with WHO towards our health reforms over the years. Their partnership has ensured the eradication of polio, the fight against covid-19 and Lassa fever”.

We’re in partnership with WHO to ensure immunization of every child which will translate to a healthy environment, while the State Government is ensuring the vaccination of every citizen”.

“Our relationship with WHO has been very fruitful and we hope to continue to sustain a healthy environment in Edo State”, Shaibu added.

The State Coordinator of the World Health Organization, Mrs Nora Eyor, however, noted that “WHO has been in partnership with the government since 1980 and this relationship has helped to sustain a healthy society and reduce the child mortality rate”.

The roadshow began from block D, Edo State Civil Service Secretariat through Sapele Road to the city centre, King Square, popularly called Ring Road.
