With high expectations for the resumption of the Nigeria Women Football League Premiership on February 14, Edo Queens FC on Friday morning shockingly declared forward Esther Moses Chioma as absent without leave (AWOL), platinumnewsng.com is reporting.
According to the club’s management in a statement released on February 2, Esther Moses left the team’s camp without securing the authorization, sparking concern within the club over the player’s whereabouts. Miss. Bunmi Kayode, the camp commandant for Edo Queens FC, reported the incident to the head coach, Moses Aduku, noting that Moses Esther took her belongings and exited the camp premises without notifying or receiving permission from any club officials.
The club in its statement explicitly stated that Moses was under contract with Edo Queens FC at the time of her departure, noting the absence of any formal complaints or discussions regarding her leaving the club mid-season. Despite attempts to contact her, efforts have been unsuccessful, leading to the club’s decision to officially mark her status as AWOL.
“The club management did not receive any complaints from the player on any issue affecting her and there was no negotiation between the player and the management that she would leave the club by season all efforts to reach her have proved abortive which has prompted the management to declare her awol.” the statement read
The management of Edo Queens FC is concerned about the situation and is actively seeking to understand the circumstances surrounding Moses’s unexpected departure. The incident has raised questions about player welfare and contract obligations within the club.
