Super Eagle’s defender’s club announces manager’s departure

By Taiwo Adeyinka

Super Eagles of Nigeria defender Benjamin Tanimu’s new club, Crawley Town FC, has announced the departure of former manager Scott Lindsey after twenty months with the side.

The 52-year-old who in one year changed the fortune of the side, left the Red Devils to link up with League Two side Milton Keynes Dons (MK Dons).

The Walsall-born joined the English League One side in January 2023 and was immediately met with the task of maintaining the club’s English Football League status. After a tricky start, Scott guided Crawley to safety with a game to spare after securing a 0-2 victory in a relegation six-pointer at Hartlepool before a 0-0 draw at the Broad Field Stadium against Walsall finally secured survival for his new team.

Lindsey transformed Crawley from relegation battlers to play-off heroes as the Reds saw off Crewe Alexandra by two goals to nil to secure League One status.

“I’m leaving with a heavy heart because of my connection with the team and the fan base. They have been amazing, and they supported me through the playoff campaign and the Wembley memory. We couldn’t have achieved anything if not for the support of the management, the staff, the supporters, and the players.”

“I’m proud of what we have achieved and how we achieved it, not just the promotion, but the style in which we did it. This is a fantastic football club that I would hold really to my heart forever.”

Reacting to Scott’s departure, Club Chairman Preston Johnson expressed how unhappy he was but respected the manager’s decision. “Scott was such a big part of the success we had in the last year or so. We wanted Scott to stay with us, but ultimately he decided to leave, which we respect.

Alongside Scott, Assistant Manager Jamie Day, First-Team Coach Carl Laraman and Goalkeeper Coach Steve Hale will also depart.
