Ahead of the Flying Eagles’ crucial U-20 AFCON opener against Tunisia, head coach Aliyu Zubairu has revealed that the team’s primary goal is to secure a place at the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Speaking in the pre match conference ahead of Nigeria’s opening game scheduled for 4pm tomorrow at the June 30 Stadium in Cairo on Thursday. Zubairu emphasized that while expectations are high, the team is focused on taking it one step at a time.

“Our target for now is to get the ticket to the World Cup. We don’t want to put pressure on the boys,” Zubairu stated.

“By the time we get to the semi-final stage, then we will sit down and reassess our targets. Our first target is to get to the semi-final and secure World Cup qualification.”

As the Flying Eagles are set to begin their campaign against Tunisia, Zubairu beckoned on Nigerians for their support.

“We know Nigerians to support any Nigerian team. They leave their businesses to always support the team. Their prayers is very important for us. We need their prayers and support for the team to perform to the level we want,” he concluded.
