World Cup Qualifiers: “We can’t throw in the towel” – Finidi Gorge

The coach of the Super Eagles has insisted that the team cannot throw in the towel yet in qualifying for the 2026 World Cup after a 2-1 defeat to the Benin Republic.

The match which took place at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium, Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire saw the Nigerian team succumb to defeat.

While speaking after the match, George said his side cannot throw in the towel yet because they have had only three points from four games.

“Everybody must be committed and with that commitment, we can win games. And when we win games, the battle will still be there. We have a way to get these players back so they can perform”, he added.

Former Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr’s side recorded a back-to-back win in their World Cup qualifiers after defeating Rwanda on June 6.

Finidi’s side is currently fifth on the log after recording their first loss in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers after three draws.
