YPL 2024: Genesis FC off to winning start to the league.

The maiden edition of the 2024 Youth Premier League kicked off today in Benin City as Genesis FC secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Rangers FC of Oluku, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.

The matchday one fixture which was played at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) sports centre, home pitch of Genesis FC saw both teams going into halftime with a goalless scoreline.

Both teams had chances to score in the first half but their strikers didn’t take the chances.

Genesis FC who were the host had more of the ball in the second half but couldn’t find an early lead in the second half.

The host however had to wait till the 70th minute of the game when Stephen Samson played Dirisu Oghenafarme Godwin on to score the only goal of the match.

It was however not worth it that the defence line of Genesis did put in a very good game to prevent the visitors from scoring in the game.

Victor Udi, the coach of Genesis FC while speaking in the post-match interview, stated that he was pleased with the performance of his boys, stating that lack of competitive action since the start of the year has made the boy’s match rusty, the reason why they found it difficult to score more goals. He also heaped praises on his defenders for their dogged display to prevent Rangers from scoring.

Matchday one fixtures of the Youth Premier League continues on Sunday. Bravehearts FC will welcome Worshippers FC to their University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH)sports centre home ground by 1 pm, while by 3 pm, Shavik FA will be at the Eresoyen primary school to trade tackle against Red Stars FC who will be at home.
