The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has beckoned on Nigerians to vote for Super Eagles talisman Victor Osimhen in the race to clinch the 2023 Best FIFA Men’s Player award at an event slated to be held later this year.
The 24-year-old sensational striker was nominated for the prestigious laurels alongside Argentine and Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi who is also the current holder, Manchester City’s Duo of Nowergian’s Erling Haaland and Belgian’s Kevin De Bruyne, and French and Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe.
Football fans around the world are expected to vote for the player of their choice to win the award, therefore, the NFF has decided to take matters into their own hands by soliciting votes for the Napoli marksman on their X handle.
“Vote for our @victorosimhen9 here’s the link to do so fifa.com/the best fifa,” they posted.
The former Sporting Charleroi forward was a key member in the Partenopei’s set-up that won the 2022/23 Scudetto title; in a season where he had 26 goals and 4 assists in 32 Serie A games, and has continued with an impressive form scoring three goals in four league games for his team this campaign.
Osimhen, however, finished top of the scorer’s chart in the recently-concluded 2023 AFCON qualifying series with 10 goals, of which he had a hat-trick in the Super Eagles’ 6-0 humiliation of Sao Tome and Principe in the final qualifier held on Sunday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
