Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has congratulated the Super Eagles of Nigeria following their impressive 4-0 victory over Mambas of Mozambique —to secure a quarter-final spot at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.

Edo-born, Victor Osimhen scored twice in both halves, Ademola Lookman and Adams Akor netted one each to propel the Eagles to a comfortable victory at the Fes Sports Centre, Fèz, Morocco, Monday night.

In a congratulatory message, the governor described the win as a fitting New Year gift to Nigerians, noting that it has boosted national morale and strengthened fans’ commitment to the team. He praised the players for showing exceptional character on the field, adding that their performances have helped put behind the disappointment of missing out on World Cup qualification and have brought joy to Nigerians since the start of the tournament.

“Huge congratulations to the Super Eagles on their impressive win to book their place in the quarter finals of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.”

“This victory comes as a perfect NEW YEAR GIFT, boosting the nation’s morale and reinforcing the fans’ devotion to the team.”

“I watched you display exceptional character on the field, putting behind them not making the World Cup and putting smiles on the faces of Nigerians since the kick off of this tournament.”

Governor Okpebholo also urged the players to maintain unity and determination as they prepare for the next decisive stage of the competition. He expressed confidence in the team’s ability to sustain the momentum and continue making the nation proud.

“I also want to admonish the boys to remain in unity and keep pushing on as they prepare for another decisive round of the tournament.”
