Ahead of the commencement of the 2026/27 football season, Assistant Coach of Rivers United, Yemi Olanrewaju, says the Port Harcourt side is ready to aim for silverware in both domestic and continental competitions.
In a tweet on his X handle, the young tactician believes that the Pride of Rivers are pumped up to challenge for laurels following an impactful pre-season tourney.
While reeling out his engagements over the years on the continent, Olanrewaju said he is unbeaten, adding that his side is motivated to compete in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
“Preseason has been cool and tough. We are battle-ready for the league and CAF Champions League. This is my fourth consecutive season in all CAF club competitions, with two group-stage qualifications. Even though I don’t think I am motivated for the continental as much as I am for the league this season.”
The Pride of Rivers, led by Finidi George, will face San Pedro in the first round of the CAF Champions League preliminary round. In contrast, the winner of the tie will face Vipers or FC Nouadhibou in the second round.
In the domestic league, Rivers United will square off against Plateau United in their first game of the season at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, having narrowly lost the league to eventual champions Rangers International in the previous season.
