Cape Verde hosts Union of West African Federations Cup

Cape Verde has been confirmed as the host of the women’s tournament of the Union of West African Federations, UFOA.

This competition, to be organized by the African Football Confederation, CAF and billed to hold in early 2023 involves countries from the West Zone of the Continent, namely Cape Verde, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea Conakry, Mali, Mauritania, Senegal and Sierra Leone.

Recall that the 2023 hosts, Cape Verde Women’s Team participated in a UFOA tournament in Sierra Leone, in 2020, and finished fourth in the eight-nation competition.

The vice president of the Cape Verdean Football Federation (FCF) for women’s football, Tatiana Carvalho hopes that this competition will give a new impetus to women’s football, as she believes it will contribute to that Cape Verdean society has a true understanding of the reality of football played in Africa.

Carvalho recommended, however, the improvement of the organization of women’s football, especially in domestic regional competitions, so that the athletes selected to integrate the national team are at the same level as the players who develop abroad.

Cape Verde, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea Conakry, Mali, Mauritania, Senegal and Sierra Leone are the countries of UFOA.
