Heartland Queens Frustrate Bayelsa Queens’ Super Six Title Aspirations

Bayelsa Queens’ aspirations of winning the ongoing Nigeria Women Football League Premiership suffered a setback Friday after as they were held to a goalless draw by struggling Heartland Queens.

The game kicked off with the home team expressing hunger and desire to get the job done as early as possible.

Heartland Queens going into the game had just a point after losing two and picking a draw in the first three games of the tournament. The Restoration Girls planned to capitalize on that and they nearly got the lead, just ten minutes into the game.

Unexpectedly, Chimebere Opara went close to scoring in the 14 minute for Heartland, but her rebound effort went off goal.Mercy Omokwo thought she had put her team ahead with a goal in the 23rd minute, but her effort was ruled out for offside. Six minutes later, Heartland’s Uchenna Chukwu made a point black save to deny Bayelsa’s Shakirat Moshood.

Bayelsa Queens pushed further and were almost rewarded yet again in the 29th minute. Heartland’s Uchenna Chukwu was once called to action, she delivered as expected of her. Bayelsa’s Zainab Olopade hit a well-taken free kick, but Uchenna Chukwu denied her.

Domo Okara sent in the likes of Mercy Itimi, Chisom Chima, Rose Ekong, Mercy Omokwo, and Anjor Mary, but they could only contribute sweats to the match.

Same for who Obi Ogbala, who introduced Nwabueze Charles and Chinwendu Orji to beef up his team, but they couldn’t hurt their host.

The game ended in a stalemate and left Bayelsa Queens in an uncomfortable position. Though the team sits top with 8 points, they could end the day as a third-placed team, should Edo Queens and Rivers Angels record wins in their games.
