Udinese goalie, Maduka Okoye has declared his readiness to return back to the Super Eagles of Nigeria and earn a starting place, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.

In a recent conversation with the Udinese official website, Okoye expressed his difficulty in not being part of the team during the 2022 AFCON, watching the tournament unfold from afar.

“I’m very well now. I feel 100% – He guarantees, with an eye towards the call-up with his Nigeria – The national team is an important thing for me and I want to return as soon as possible. It was bad watching the Africa Cup of Nations from home, but this is football.” It read on Udinese official website.

The Nigerian goalkeeper, has been absent from the national team lineup since a critical mistake in the 2021 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) Round of 16 match against Tunisia, which resulted in the Super Eagles’ elimination from the competition.

As discussions about Okoye’s potential return to the Super Eagles gain momentum, he faces stiff competition from Stanley Nwabali. Nwabali’s superb performance in the 2023 AFCON has made him a strong contender for the first-choice goalkeeper position. Okoye’s journey back to claiming the top spot promises to be challenging as he aims to make a comeback to the national team.

Okoye joined Italian Serie A club Udinese on a season-long loan deal from English Championship club Watford at the start of the season. In nine appearances, the 24-year-old has kept three cleansheets and conceded 12 goals.
