I will never vote against Osimhen – Emmanuel Amuneke

By Taiwo Adeyinka

Former assistant coach of the Super Eagles, Emmanuel Amuneke has cleared the air following controversies on his choice of Mohammed Salah as his preferred African Footballer of the Year, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.

The Ex-Nigerian International who was appointed Zambia’s Premier League head coach in the year 2022 expressed his feeling regarding the African Footballer as he noted the award can be for anyone and that he is not against anyone.

“There was never a time I was among the people that voted for the African Footballer Award of the year, not even for the goalkeeper, not even for the coaches. The only job I did then was to present an Award to the coach of the year.”

He went on to explain that the situation at hand was a question with two options, Mohammed Salah or Achraf Hakimi

“Secondly, during a discussion between two Egyptians and Morocco on a bus, the question of the African Footballer of the Year came up. The Arab people were arguing among themselves and that was how they approached me. So it wasn’t about Osimhen, Salah or Hakimi they were arguing about who is the best between Morocco and Egypt.”

“So there is no time I voted against Osimhen and I will never vote against Osimhen. Osimhen is somebody I trained, somebody I love, somebody I am happy with, somebody that I told in the year 2014 that if God permits one he will be an African Footballer of the Year and it happened.”

He went further to explain that here is a country where people exaggerate things and assume situations without adequate facts. He went on to encourage journalists to please be an exception and be sure of their speculations.

As he ended his answer, he explained how unfair speculations are “But anyway, I’m clear with my conscience and why I need to do is to remain focused and continue to do what I know best.”
