The chairman of the Imo State Football Association, Mr. Amanze Uchegbulam has withdrawn from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) presidential race billed to take place in Benin, City on September 30, 2022.
In a letter obtained by platinumnewsng.com, the long-serving Imo State FA chairman’s decision to pull out of the contest was signed himself and sent to the NFF electoral committee on the 26th of September.
Mr. Uchegbulam attributed his sole reason for withdrawing from the presidential race to a court order restraining the elections from holding on Friday and he is a “law-abiding citizen of Nigeria”.
“I hereby formally bring to your notice my intention, not to participate in the NFF Election scheduled for 30 Sept 2022. Because there is a well-publicized order from Hon Justice L.E. Ekwo of the Federal High Court Abuja on the 15 day of September 2022, Stopping the election pending the hearing of the substantive suit.
“However, as a Law abiding citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I shall make myself available and participate in the election, Upon the order of Federal High Court Abuja made on the 15 September 2022, being vacated and or set aside or issues being resolved by the parties, to the knowledge of the Court and the public for the purpose, and same communicated to the Aspirants accordingly by the electoral committee.” The letter read
Uchegbulam, who is a lawyer by profession, noted he will be back in the presidential race if the court injunction is vacated before the election.
Aggrieved members of the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria (PFAN) secured an injunction from the Federal High Court in Abuja stopping the elections from holding over various issues bordering on the unequal representation of football players on the NFF board.
