In a news buzzing around the media, it was reported per source that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has given a three-day ultimatum to Jose Peseiro to either settle for a pay cut and renew his contract or bid farewell to his Super Eagles job.
The Chairman of the Technical and Development Committee of the NFF, Alhaji Sheriff Rabiu Inuwa, however, disclosed this in an exclusive interview with Completesports.com, after the committee’s inauguration on Tuesday in Abuja.
“The Technical Committee has given him [Peseiro] three days to respond to our proposed pay cut or we disengage him finally. We will allow him to continue if he accepts a reduction in his 70,000 USD monthly salary and other conditions of service.
“If he turns down our proposal, we will consider appointing a coach to oversee the dead rubber game against Sao Tome and Principe in Uyo, then we start to search for a new substantive coach that the NFF can afford to pay his salary, ” Inuwa stated.
Peseiro’s contract with the Nigeria men’s national team elapsed on July 31 while agreeing to remain as the coach of Super Eagles in preparation for Cote d’Ivoire 2023 AFCON next January after qualifying the team with a match to spare.
Following the NFF’s inability to meet up with the burden of paying his huge monthly salary, the Federation has offered to extend his stay with a pay cut.
However, Peseiro has since then refused to accept a pay cut but would love to continue with the three-time African champions, even with not being paid for 12 months has now been told to accept the pay cut or bid farewell to the job.
