Gbenga Ogunbote has praised the performance of Shooting Stars as they secured a valuable point against Sporting Lagos at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.
Ogunbote watched his side claw back from losing position twice in the game to share the spoils with the Noisy Lagosians.
Chinedu Ufere scored the opener for Sporting Lagos in the 41st minute, before Kareem Ademola equalized for the Oluyole Warriors 4 minutes into additional time of the first 45.
Just at the death of the first half, Jonathan Alukwu converted a penalty to send the home side into the break ahead and cruising.
However, six minutes into the second half, Gideon Monday scored a brilliant goal for Shooting Stars, which ultimately turned out to be the last goal of the game.
Speaking after the encounter, Gbenga Ogunbote sounded pleased by the performance of his players, saying:
“We did not perform too well. It is not like the boys do not want to do well, but, unfortunately, there was a lot of pressure everywhere.
“Even the boys wanted to win. Although the win was not coming, the pressure was high. With today’s performance, the boys played well.
Anyway, Shooting Stars culminate the first round of matches welcoming Enyimba to the Lekan Salami Stadium on Sunday, January 21, 2024.
They sit 11th on the Nigeria Premier Football League table, with 23 points from 17 matches.
