The reigning NPFL champions, Rangers International FC of Enugu have arrived at Ikenne, Ijebu, Ogun State, venue of the match day 4 NPFL 2024/2025 fixture against last season league runners up, Remo Stars FC.
With Rangers FC and Remo Stars exiting the CAF champions League at the preliminary rounds, all attention is now completely fixed on the NPFL as the ‘Flying Antelopes’ push to stabilize its resolve for a successful title defense while the Ikenne side chase a first title win.
Rangers, still basking in the euphoria of a 1-0 win over new premiership boys, Ikorodu City F.C in Lagos, mid-week, will be releasing all in its arsenal to stop the high riding wards of coach Daniel Ogunmodede who have not dropped any point or leaked any goal since the start of the season.
With a compact, resolute defending, sleek midfield plays and alert attack that is expected to be fielded by coach Fidelis Ilechukwu against his compatriot in the senior male national football team, Rangers fans are assured of a competitive performance.
Rangers enjoy a slight edge over their host in this top-of-the-bill encounter that will be taken live by the host broadcaster, with three wins in eight encounters between them laced with three draws and two losses with the 1-2 win of 27/08/2017 by Rangers standing out as the only road win between both teams.
This season, both sides have been in fine form with the ‘Flying Antelopes’ notching up three wins, two draws and a loss scoring five goals and conceding four in six matches while their opponent, Remo Stars have won four and lost one, scoring seven goals and conceding three in five matches played thus far.
Speaking ahead of the crunch tie, technical adviser of Rangers, Fidelis Ilechukwu admits how difficult it is to get a result against Remo Stars at their backyard but assured of his team’s preparedness to win.
“Remo Stars is currently the best side in the league with so much energy and quality and I know it’s going to be a difficult match but we are always positive in what we can achieve. We need to build on the success we achieved in Lagos against Ikorodu City and hope for a positive result in Ikenne.”
The match day 4, NPFL 2024/2025 fixture is expected to kickoff by 5:30 pm on Sunday, September 29, 2024.
