Plateau Scrabble Championship Series: Kakwi prevails to retain top spot on matchday 3

Dan Kakwi has retained the top spot on the prize table at the ongoing Plateau State Scrabble Championship Series despite being beaten to second position on match day 3 played at Greatklings Continental Suites, Jos, during the weekend.

Scoring the highest cumulative points from the three match days so far concluded to remain at the top with 23.5 points out of a possible 30, the one who calls himself The Scrabble Consultant, is a precarious half a point ahead of closest challenger Ben Batol who is on 23 points.

From his victory on match day 1 where he edged fellow eight-pointers, Paul Owalegba and Bitrus Bagos by a superior spread, Dan has maintained the top position despite placing fourth and second on match days 2 and 3 respectively.

Whereas his consistency at the top since match day 1, may suggest that Dan could seal his win on match day 4, the determination of Benjamin Batol on 23 points and the current form of the first runner up of the intermediate category at the recently concluded Governor Douye Diri National Scrabble Championship, Alhassan Shaibu on 22 points, makes it a tough one to call.

In the other prize category, Babade Olusegun on 15 wins looks set to clinch the Best Newbie prize if Ajao Anthony on 14 wins and the Plateau State Player of the year, Edmond Ehizoje, do not spring a surprise at the finals on match day 4, scheduled for 10th December.
