National Youth Games: More medals rolled in for Team Edo as day 5 closed

Monday as always being a productive day didn’t disappoint as Team Edo wracked up some medals to push itself for stability and remain competitive on the medals table at the ongoing National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State.

The Heartbeat of the Nation opened its day with gold and shut the day’s door with gold in different sports in different locations.
It was Osaretin Godwin who won Bronze on Sunday in the 40km road race cycling event who opened the medals gate on Monday as she raced to gold in the 10km road race in the female category.

The Handball team added to the state’s reasons to be excited as they recorded a 15-12 win over Team Ondo in the quarter-finals. The Team will play the winners of Sokoto and Delta’s match.

Just a few minutes after noon, Team Edo added two more medals courtesy of Ivie Edogiawerie and Quadri Mustapha who fought hard to clinch Bronze medals in Para Table Tennis.

Titiboh Queen clinched a Bronze medal in the women’s 100m butterfly swimming event to add more strength to the medals table.

As time went down, the floor mat in the multipurpose hall, ground floor at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, witnessed the emergence of a new judoka for the future.

Team Edo at the close of Day 5 of the event has recorded 9 medals – 3 gold, 9 bronze.

Emmanuel Abel surfaced and clinched the gold medal in the 35kg of the event.
Hostilities continue Tuesday as the team will compete for medals in Cricket, Aquatics and others.
