African Boxing Supremacy: Egypt, Nigeria face off for Yucateco Pan-African Title

All is set for the hugely anticipated Yucateco boxing Pan-African title fight in Edo state. At a media Parley in  Lagos on Monday, organizers of the event Yucateco boxing promotions announced that the five rounds contest will be held on Wednesday, 11th September, in Uzebba Luleha, in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State.

The historic contest, which is the main event of the Yucateco Boxing League Week 5, will feature two bouts. One in the 63.5kg male, between Abdulwahab Abdulrahman of Nigeria and Mostafa Hafez Egypt. The other is a 60kg female battle between home girl Precious Anine and Egypt’s Hagar Elsayed.

The Chief executive officer of Yucateco boxing promotions Omonlei Yakubu Imadu, said the aim behind the initiative is to give cross-border exposure to amateur pugilists in the continent.

“Abdulwahab and Precious are the most valuable boxers in the male and female category in season One of the Yucateco boxing league, as we speak  both pugilists have had over 12 bouts in the league with very impressive results and we believe it’s time for them to have an international exposure”

“The boxers from Egypt Mostafa and Elsayed are also the best in their respective weight categories so, the Yucateco boxing Pan-African title contest is not only a win for the sport in Nigeria but for Africa”

Imadu also stated that the winners in both contests will have a maximum of three months to defend their titles.

“The bouts have been sanctioned by the Boxing Promoters Association of Nigeria BPAN, which I happen to be the president of, it’s a five-round bout, and the winners will have to defend their title after three months.”

It will be recalled that Yucateco boxing promotions held a more expansive version of the Pan-African boxing championship in the Togolese Capital Lomé in May 2024.
