The national U19 female Cricket team of Nigeria, the Junior Female Yellow Greens will face England and Ireland in the second round of the on going ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup despite losing to South Africa on Wednesday morning at the Borneo Cricket Ground Sarawak, Malaysia.
As it happened in previous group matches, the start to the game was delayed by the rains, causing the overs to be reduced to just 8. After electing to field first, the junior female yellow greens fought had to restrict the South Africans, but the junior female Proteas scored 41 runs after 7.2 overs with Lucky Piety only succeeding once at bowling out her opponent’s wicket before the resurgence from the downpour.
As play resumed after the rains, the South Africans quickly rallied to score 49 runs for the loss of 2 wickets at the end of the 8 overs. On the other hands, Nigeria were heavily restricted by the South Africans who only allowed 24 runs for the junior female yellow greens who lost 8 wickets, thus losing by a scoreline of 41 runs.
Despite this loss, Nigeria still finished second in group C after previously earning 3 points with victory over New Zealand and draw against Samoa.
Nigeria advances to the super six round alongside South Africa and New Zealand. The junior female yellow greens will take on England and Ireland in the super six for a place in the Semifinals.
Nigeria will take on the junior Lionesses of England on the 25th of January while facing Ireland on the 29th of January.
