Ahead of Season 2 of the Yucateco boxing league which gets on the way this July, the CEO of the leading boxing promotional outfit Omonlei Yakubu Imadu, have urged participating boxers to conduct themselves as through Professionals all through the season.

Imadu made this known in a chart with our correspondence at the Yucateco Boxing Promotions head office in Lagos on Saturday. The insightful boxing promoter said the outfit will not lower its standard in organizing a world-class boxing language from July 26th to November 1st 2024.

“We are raising the standard much higher this time, a few things we overlooked in the maiden season will no longer be handled with levity hence we have called on the boxers, coaches, and umpires to be at their best within and outside the ring”

Hon. Omonlei who initiated the first of it kind boxing league in Nigeria in 2023, further stated that the increase in the prize money from 20 million to 50 million naira in season 2 is to significantly impact the financial state of the boxing clubs.

“You will agree with me that any of the clubs who emerge as this season’s champion may have just changed their fortunes forever, the prize money will help them invest more in their boxers as well as their camp and training facilities”

“It should also interest you to note, that fourteen (14) different states and cities will be hosting the bouts this time, and I make bold to say that the very positive feedback we have gotten from the accredited venues is an indication that the states are truly prepared to touch their communities through boxing”

Twelve boxing clubs will compete in season 2 of the Yucateco boxing league. The opening week of bouts will be held in Ikeja, Lagos on Friday, July 26th before the fight train moves to other communities and States in Nigeria.
