Nigeria Football faces Calendar Conundrum with Dozy Mmobuosi Super Cup

Confusion engulfs Nigeria’s football scene as the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) presents two calendars for the upcoming season of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

This unexpected development has left fans and followers of Nigerian football scratching their heads in bewilderment.

Adding to the complexity is the announcement of the Dozy Mmobuosi Super Cup,, set to hold in Benin City from 11th to the 22nd of October 2023, a period that falls after the NPFL season has already commenced. What is even more surprising is that this supposed ‘pre-season tournament’ will take place amid the ongoing league matches.

The NFF shared crucial documents with participating clubs, revealing that the Draws for the NPFL/Dozy Mmobuosi Super Cup Football Tournament will occur in Lagos on the 30th of September. It has been confirmed that only the top 8 teams based on their performances in the previous NPFL season will have the honour of participating in this unique tournament.

Although its unconventional timing may raise eyebrows, it is an opportunity for elite clubs to showcase their talents in a distinctive setting.
