Former Super Eagles player and coach, Sunday Oliseh has come to the defense of Nigerian international striker Victor Osimhen after Napoli’s controversial TikTok video sparked outrage, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.
The video showed Osimhen missing a penalty against Bologna, with a high-pitched voice saying, “gimme penalty please,” dubbed over the top.
In response to the video, the 1996 gold medalist took to X, expressing his pride in being Nigerian and offering his support to Osimhen.
Osimhen, who joined Napoli in the summer of 2020 for a club-record fee of 81.3 million euros, played an important role in the club’s Serie A title win last season, scoring an impressive 26 goals in 32 league appearances. The TikTok video posted by Napoli has since been deleted, but it generated significant backlash from fans and the football community.
The 49-year-old’s support for Osimhen comes amidst a growing controversy surrounding the player and his club Napoli, raising questions about his future with the Serie A side. The 24-year-old striker has been a subject of transfer rumors, with speculations regarding his potential departure from Napoli.
