Shaibu Launches Quick Response E-Sticker for Commercial Vehicles

…As Govt Moves to Stem Security Challenges in Edo

Edo State Government through the Ministry of Transportation, charged with the statutory responsibility for the regulation and control of commercial vehicles in the State has launched a dedicated E-Sticker Verification Application for commercial vehicles, to check insecurity and boost revenue generation in the road transportation sub-sector.

Speaking at the official launch of the new e-sticker at the Central Motor Park in Benin City, Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu stated that the e-sticker verification was a reliable platform that allows the State Ministry of Transportation field officers and law enforcement agencies to verify the details of every commercial vehicle in the State.

According to the Deputy Governor, “this innovation from Edo State Government is a user-friendly interface that detects every information on stickers generated by users and individuals respectively”.

Shaibu added that having registered a vehicle, information with the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Edo State Ministry of Transportation sticker will be generated, as field officers only need to have the e-sticker Quick Response ( QR) Code reader, which will decode the registration information of the commercial vehicle.

Also speaking, Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Osasere Malachi Evbuomwan, said the e-sticker reader which was available on Google Playstore, will help Edo State Commercial drivers to authenticate the mobile Quick Response (QR) code issued to them by the State Ministry of Transportation.

Lending their voices on details of the application, the State Chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Comrade Odion Olaye and his counterpart in the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, RTEAN, Comrade Charles Momoh, noted that information regarding the commercial vehicle or individual name, plate number (where applicable) and vehicle type will be displayed seamlessly to verify the authenticity of the sticker.

He added: “This platform has been developed to ensure that commercial vehicles in Edo State have authorised stickers to checkmate the rising wave of insecurity in Edo State”.

For the application to be put to effective use, clients should simply download and install the E-Sticker Verifier App from the Google Playstore or Apple Store.

The new sticker is aimed at stemming the activities of criminal elements and touts who impersonate drivers as well as curb the challenges of insecurity in Edo State.
