Edo Rugby Assistant Coach Bags Nigeria Rugby Federation Appointment.

Assistant coach of the Edo State Rugby Association, Jeremiah Igbuwe has been appointed as the South-South Assistant Technical Representative of the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation.

The president of the federation, Dr Ademola Olabisi Are, through the General Secretary, Joel Akinluwa, in a letter announced that the appointment of the veteran is with immediate effect.

The letter which was obtained by platinumnewsng.com contained that the appointment which was approved by the Board of the NRFF is based on Mr Jeremiah’s wealth of experience in coaching and the faith they have in him to contribute to the growth of the game.

“I am directed by the President to convey the approval of the Board of the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF) for your appointment as the Assistant Technical Representative of the South-South.”

“This appointment is based on your wealth of experience in coaching as well as the value you can add to the development of rugby in the zone.”

“However, this appointment can be terminated by the Board at any time if it is not used for its aim and objective or as the Board felt.”

The newly appointed Technical Assistant is expected to liaise from time to time with the Board Member representing his zone, the Technical Representative and the Secretary-General to organize goal-driven and developmental programmes in his zone.

Reacting to his appointment, the elated tactician said this is good news and at the same time a big challenge for him, but he’s confident that his appointment will be something the federation will look back and appreciate.

The Benin born was appointed as a coach in 2019 and has since been assisting the head coach in charge of the Edo Rugby Football team. In his three years as an assistant coach, he has helped the team win gold in the national sports festival as well as in the national youth games.

The 43-year-old won one gold, one silver and one bronze as a player at the 2006 (Gateway) National Sports Festival, Ogun state and Gold at the 2009 (Kada) National Sports Festival as a player. He took charge of the Edo State youth Rugby team at the 2018 Ilorin National Youth Games 2018 where he won a gold medal, the same feat he repeated at the Ilorin 2021 youth games with the grassroots girls. The soft speaking friendly tactician also took a pivotal role in team Edo winning 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze (men) and 2 gold and 1 silver (Women) at the 2020 National Sports Festival in Benin City.

Coach Jeremiah bagged his first coaching certificate in December 2017 in Abuja from the NRFF and added to his knowledge tank My in Delta State College of Education Center for Sports Development, Mosogar for a diploma from 2019 to 2022. Additionally, he attended a virtual world rugby coaching certificate to his resume in June 2020.
