Other Regions should emulate South-South Cricket – Leke Oyede

Coach of the Nigeria Female National Cricket team, fondly known as the Female Yellow Greens, Leke Oyede has implored other regions across the country to emulate the South-South in hosting championships periodically, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.

In a chat with Sharon Ekhiwere of Platinum News, Oyede expreesed his happiness at seeing cricket players compete at the top level as he noted that it is an avenue for the national team to scout players.

“I am here to support the activities happening here over the last three years. Seeing players come out on their own without support to compete in the top level makes me happy.

“This has been one of the best activities for the national team coaches to select the best from the South-South Female League. I will implore other regions across the country to look into creating something like this so we can have a balance.

This kind of event helps me as a coach to see the talents, who is performing and who is not performing, who needs more training and all that to achieve their set goals.” Oyede told Platinum News.

Speaking about the national team, he went on to acknowledege the Nigeria Cricket Federation efforts in ensuring the national teams are kept busy which has now increased competitiveness of the Female Yellow Greens.

“At this point, I think we should have more competitive international games and play more invitational tournaments. In the last three years, we have put in a lot of work for the players to compete at the high level such as the World Cup qualifiers.” he concluded.
